Baby photography, snohomish county. June Bug Photography.

newborn photography by june bug photographyThis little guy has grown so much since I saw him last (for his newborn session). He came over for a playdate with mom and dad, and I stole him away to get some valentine’s day pictures. Isn’t he perfect? He is soooooo sweet, and beyond adorable. Love love love.

I just love working with babies!! We have so many fun props to work with in studio, and I LOVE getting these little ones to smile. Here is a little comparison of how much he has changed in the last few months! I HIGHLY recommend scheduling LOTS of sessions during baby’s first year. There are so many wonderful changes that happen, and it is so important to capture these events. For baby photography, here are some ideas for good times to book: Newborn (6-10 days old, for those curly, sleepy photos. Tiny hands, itty bitty features, hairy shoulders!) between 3-6 months. (Tummy time photos, awake baby, smiling, alert & curious). Between 6-9 months (assisted and unassisted sitting! They have grown and changed so much in such a short amount of time. Baby is often semi mobile, rolling scooching, etc). 12 months (this is a great celebratory session! Cakes smashes are adorable and fun, but so is a simply session focusing on all of the GIANT milestones baby has reached: sitting, laughing, smiling, playing, babbling, pulling up, crawling, standing, assisted walking).june bug photography, snohomish county june bug photography 98296 June bug photography, snohomish county june bug photography

I am in love with how this session went! Grandma and Grandpa were absolutely amazing, patient, and had tons of great ideas (and awesome outfits). Their granddaughter was simply perfect. She was such a gem the ENTIRE session, and is just stunning. This little princess is 9 months old, and absolutely stunning. Grandma and Grandpa were in town visiting, and set up a fun session with their precious grandbaby. They were all gorgeous, and baby was such a gem. She is a bit of a daredevil, and tried to tip over/dive out of nearly every prop we used…but we had all hands on deck! Also, added bonus? She REALLY liked me…always helps a session go smoothly! I super duper hope I get to see these guys when they are next in town. Here are a few of my favorites.

This session was held in our Snohomish studio, and it was so much fun. We have a great set up for high energy kiddos, and keep the session fun and exciting. I have a lot of sessions to get caught up with! I just realized I have been bad about keeping my blog up to date. I have had a TON of adorable families in studio the last two months and I can’t wait to share them with you. Thinking about booking a family session? Email me ASAP to reserve your date!

This little guy is freshly 1 year old, and just might be the most mobile 1 year old I have ever met. He was sooo interested in everything, and it was so fun to watch him run around the studio checking everything out. Little man was a total natural, until we wanted to get a whole family shot. I guess he prefers being center stage! Seriously adorable family!!

Milestone photo sessions are a great way to keep on top of family photos! Baby’s first year holds so many changes, developments, and wonderful surprised. If you are expecting, or recently had a baby, book your milestone sessions now!! Maternity photography, newborn photography, 6 months, 12 months (including a cake smash!) are all perfect times to book a session.

My favorite part of this job is meeting some seriously fantastic families, and getting to know them during each session. These guys were so much fun to work with, and I am so glad I had the opportunity to meet them! Big brother was a total trooper for the entire session, and didn’t complain at all. He wasn’t the biggest fan of being IN FRONT of the camera, but he was fine letting baby brother get all the attention for the day! Mom & Dad brought along a gorgeous crocheted blanket, hat, and booties made by a family friend. Baby boy is 4 days new, and so snuggly. He wanted to eat just about every 15 minutes, but played it cool the rest of the time.

I just *adore* newborn sessions! Have a baby on the way? Book your session NOW with June Bug photography, Snohomish county newborn photographer (don’t worry, we “pencil” in a date, but I totally understand that babies come when they please!) Come hang out & relax in my studio, while I get some amazing photos of your tiny one. Newborn photos are best done within the first two weeks after baby’s arrival. Baby is super snuggly, and sleepy during the first two weeks…and it is best to get the photos done during this window. Email me at mjenkinsphotography@gmail.com to talk more!

First Birthday Cake Smash, pretty in pink! Snohomish county photographer June Bug Photography.

This gorgeous birthday girl kept things pretty clean for her First Birthday Cake smash. Mom made an amazing cake, and a super sweet banner (featuring photos from Baby’s first 12 months!). I got to meet 2 of 3 big brothers, and both were so sweet with their little sister! She is clearly smitten with her family, as she kept trying to feed them all dollops of frosting. So sweet! We even had time for some adorable “bath time” photos for clean up.

First birthdays are so much fun, and it is awesome to capture baby’s first bite of cake with a cake smash. I have TONS of banners, cake stands, backdrops, etc. to personalize the session for your little one. I even have a “hook up” for cakes, if you are looking for a smash cake! Book your session today, email me at mjenkinsphotography@gmail.com

A sample of our props, backdrops, wraps, etc. Snohomish county photographer June Bug Photography.

I have mentioned before the I am a bit of a prop junkie. Well, I figured I should let you all have a sneak peek BEFORE coming into the studio. I have seen the “deer in the headlights” look from moms who are totally overwhelmed by all of their choices, and I want to solve that problem. I pulled out a bunch of my props, I JUST FINISHED sewing 12 buntings, and I threw together a few sample set ups for some inspiration! Take a look, and let me know if any fit your style! We can (obviously) mix & match anything seen here…and this only SOME of what I have.

I have a bunch of other smaller backdrops, but I got a little overwhelmed trying to sample everything. Have something in mind that you don’t see here? JUST ASK, and I will try my best to make it happen!

Here is a quick look at the birthday hats, ties, and bowties I have in studio. I made the ties and hats to coordinate with our buntings and Banners. Bow Ties made by the wonderful A Rose For Rae

I have a ton of newborn props, and also do much of a newborn session on my beanbag…but this little blue bed is sooo adorable!!

I love the simplicity of this set up, and the bright bunting. This would be adorable for first birthday photographs, as well as a cake smash, or even a newborn. Love the gender neutral set ups!

Woodland themed bunting pairs nicely with the wood crate and green wraps. I love to pop my crawlers into crates…as it keep them from scooting away. Plus, it just looks adorable. This set up would be perfect for a newborn, a first birthday cake smash, or even a school aged little one.

Newborn prop set up

Teal and grays paired with a vintage wash basin. Perfect for newborns, or sitters. This basin is a great sitter assister. Keeps the new sitters from toppling over!

Here is one of my “go to” newborn props. My nest is so perfect for those newly hatched babies! I love how this prop can be used with all sorts of different wraps, throws, buntings, etc. to change up the look.

A grungy, edgy set up. Brick wall, torn fabric bunting, and vintage luggage on a wire crate. For bad-ass babies only.

Polka dots & deer in glasses? A timeless classic. Ha. I love the gray with this turquoise bunting. Imagine a toddler in black rimmed glasses? Great for a cake smash, birthday session, or an older kiddo!

Props, smash cake

Cowboy (or cowgirl!) themed set, with cowboy bunting and color coordinating rocking chair and stool.

Can someone let me borrow a new sitter to use this set up for? I’m in love!! I am sort of obsessed with my tiny couch, and love how nice it looks with the gray backdrop. All little girls look adorable in this one. For reals.

White brick backdrop, with CHALKBOARD BUNTING. I love with this banner, as it can be personalized for any occasion. Perfect for birthday photography, cake smash photos, newborns, and just about anything else! Also I am smitten with my new chair.

This chair is AMAZING because it works great for my mamas, as well as kiddos (and babies who are sitting). I just love how tiny it makes the littles look, and it is a beautiful chair for the bigs too!

Snohomish county photography props

For my newborn photography, I tend to use a TON of different wraps. I just love the pop of color you can add with a simple wrap. I have wraps in all colors for both boys and girls.

Knit hats, knit wraps, knit nests…I can’t get over how adorable they all are. It makes my uterus ache. I have a HUGE selection of newborn hats, newborn wraps, newborn nests…etc. in studio. Awesome.

This is about when I got lazy. Instead of setting these up, I figured you can get the idea of the different blankets I have if I just took a picture of my blanket shelf. Sorry (Not sorry). Also check out my cake stands. There are more, but these are some of them!

Blankets and backdrops

…annnnnnd here is where I gave up all together. I didn’t even set up any lighting, or even turn the studio lights off so they wouldn’t be backlit. Here is my tower of buckets, bins, and crates. Oh, and vintage luggage.

Cake smash Photography Snohomish County! First Birthday photography. June Bug photography, Snohomish county family photography.

Cake smashes are such a wonderful celebration for Baby’s First Birthday! I just love meeting new families, and celebrating this milestone with them.

Its possible that I have mentioned this before, but…I. LOVE. MY. JOB! I got to meet this handsome devil for his 1st Birthday Cake smash today. We had so much fun, and he was just the cutest little guy ever. This was his second time actually tasting cake, as his real birthday was yesterday…so he knew that this stuff is GOOD. He dug right in, and had a blast! Mom and I mostly giggled the whole time over his cuteness.

Mom brought along an adorable embroidered hat, tie, banner, and diaper cover. I am so in love with his outfit. I am thinking I need to DIY a few sets in different color schemes! How fun would that be? I just love the way the colors pop off the white backdrop and floor.  Here are a few of my favorites from the session:

Potty Training Craft Project, June Bug photography Snohomish county Newborn and family photography.

If you’ve been to my studio, you have seen the terrifying “Joker” in our guest bathroom. I have had so many parents ask about it, and love the story that I thought I’d share!

Target practice, potty training. June bug photography. Snohomish county photographer.

My son, who is 3 1/2 years old has been “potty trained” for over a year. Translation: he makes it into the bathroom, and points his stream in the general direction of the toilet bowl. My first born was a girl, and I have a very tidy husband…so I was completely unprepared for the LAKES OF PEE on my bathroom floor when Rex started using the toilet on his own. I was seriously cleaning piss from places and trying to work out the physics required to get it there. The ceiling. Check. The walls. Check. HIS FACE. CHECK!! No joke. Insanity.

We spent a year trying things like cheerios in the toilet (fail! he just

got really excited about “chasing” the moving target and ended up making more of a mess…also, he ate them. GROSS.), sitting while peeing (another fail. he manages to pee under the lid, and onto the floor). I sort of just resolved to cleaning up the floor EVERY TIME HE PEED. He felt bad, I was grumpy, not good for anyone.

About 6 months ago, I was sitting with Rex in our craft room, and we were both working on independent art projects. I was working on a vinyl decal, and had an idea. I called him over and asked him “If you could pee on anything, what would it be?”. His response? “Joker. On fire!”. And so, with that, we cut out fire and joker out of vinyl and stuck him on the toilet. I didn’t actually think it would make a big difference, but it was fun anyway.

You guys. It solved all of our pee troubles. Immediately! I didn’t even have to tell him what to do. We put ONE decal on ONE toilet (we have three in the house) and he has not peed on the wall/floor/door/face since. Seriously. Not once. It got him to slow down, practice targeting the pee where it should go…and he is TRAINED! We still have Joker on the toilet, and joke about “pee smacking” him, and he has only lost one eyebrow in the 6 months he has spent in my toilet. He has lasted through numerous toilet cleanings (this toilet gets cleaned ALL THE TIME because it is our guest toilet, and I don’t want our guests knowing how repulsive we are.)

I have no idea if it will work for you, but it is totally worth trying. Its funny, fun, and gets everyone to smile. How could you go wrong? For this tutorial, Rex decided we should make a UNICORN pee target fo

r his bathroom. That’s right. His second favorite thing to pee on, UNICORNS.

Materials, vinyl pee target. June bug photography.

Materials:

Vinyl (I used  631) You can get samples from most places that sell vinyl (on etsy, for example).

Scissors

Sharpie (for drawing details).

Steps:

Choose a design (or copy mine).  A few easy ideas: Flame, fly, X, a dot.

Pee target, vinyl template. Unicorn. June Bug photography. Snohomish county photography.

Cut out your pieces.

Layer pieces, starting with the color/shape on the bottom and sticking the next layer on top.

Clean your toilet. (I know, sorry…but just think of all the time you will save cleaning pee off the floor!!)

Clean toilet,

Turn off the water on the toilet (its that knob behind the toilet)

Toilet bowl water shut off

Flush toilet. If all the water does not drain from the toilet when you flush it, fill a bucket with water and quickly dump it in. The toilet will drain. Seems magic, I know. Here is a video, if you don’t believe me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihpVJMbpLXU

Dry the spot where your decal will go with a paper towel. Make sure it is super dry.

Stick on your decal. Press to secure.

I had the pleasure of having this little guy BACK after just a few weeks! He was super chill and slept for much of the session. You might recognize him from his newborn session earlier this month…although he does seem so much bigger! Mom’s family was in town for the Holidays, and I am so glad they were able to make it into the studio for a quick family session. Family photography Snohomish county, June Bug photograhy!

The twin girls are 10 years old, and simply delightful. They brought so much fun energy to the set, and it was adorable to see them fight over who loved their baby nephew more.
