Finding my style: Loving neutrals!

I pulled a few of my favorite images from my recent sessions to update my canvases in studio…and I noticed a trend. LOOOOOTS of neutral colors (cream, brown, white, etc) some with a pop of color. I am kind of obsessed with how they look together!

I have stocked my studio with colors, props, backdrops, hats, outfits, etc that I love..everything here was in studio. I am a bit of a prop addict, but I just love seeing my vision come to life in these images.

I am shifting my focus to primarily newborn photography, baby milestone photography, and kids! I have found that I love babies and kids so much, and my schedule only allows for a few sessions a week (for now, hopefully I can increase my load once the kids are in school) and I have decided to focus on what I love most.

I will be posting a ton of my most recent sessions in the next week.

Wizard of Oz themed Newborn Photos! June Bug Photography, Snohomish county family photographer

I had planned on waiting ’til Halloween to post these, but I just can’t wait any longer! I teamed up with the wonderfully talented brains behind Buttercup Baby Props (Aaron and Hannah) for this adorable Wizard of Oz themed Newborn Photos session. Props/layers/bonnets all made by Buttecup Baby Props! These are a few of my favorites from the session:

I just LOVE the adorable baby in the gingham romper, she makes the perfect Dorothy! I can’t decide which is my favorite outfit, Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow, or the Tin Man. She’s pretty stinkin’ cute in them all!!

I am hoping that by this time next year, most of my workload will be photographing newborns. I have definitely found my calling, and I just adore newborn sessions. Don’t get me wrong, I will keep doing family sessions, and milestone sessions (I LOVE THOSE TOO) but I am excited about the prospect of working while both my kids are in school during the week, and having my weekends back to spend with my family!

Our first meeting was for a 2nd birthday photo session, and it was awesome! Then, a few short weeks later, we had a newborn session for their baby brother. This family is simply adorable, and I loved every moment I spent with them. I am crossing my fingers that they keep coming back for baby’s milestone sessions!

This birthday boy is 2 years old, and simply adorable. He brought his beloved monkey, and we had a great time in the studio. I have decided to start having families bring in a favorite toy/stuffy so I can give kiddos a keepsake photo of it!! I just love the idea of kiddos having a professional photo of their favorite stuffed animal.

This little guy was a complete DREAM baby!! He was so sleepy and sweet, and beyond adorable. Mom is stunning, and the entire family rocked their session. Our sleepy studio put baby AND DAD right to sleep, and we had to wake dad up when it was his turn for photos!

Welcome to the world, beautiful baby A! This tiny little princess was just soooo sweet! She loved to snuggle, and put up with me messing with her like a charm! She endured several outfit changes, lots of headbands, and hats, and kept her cool the whole time! I am so happy I was given the opportunity to work with this sweet little girl (and her Mom, Dad, and proud Aunt!) Isn’t she simply beautiful?

DIY props – June Bug Photography Snohomish Newborn Photographer

I am a bit of a prop junkie, but I am also super crafty. Any chance I can DIY props, I do! I am feeling pretty proud of this one! While I was at goodwill last week, I found a gorgeous cream colored, cable knit sweater…for $2. I have been pretty obsessed with using neutral props, wraps, backdrops recently, and I wanted to have a great neutral option for my baskets/buckets/etc. When I saw this sweater, I knew I had to do something with it.

So, I bought it. Took it home..and then made a plan! Here is what I came up with, and I feel like a GENIUS! It’s a basket sweater!!

DIY photography props newborn It was crazy easy to make, I just cut from armpit to armpit, so I had a ring of sweater. I then folded over each end about and inch, and used a zigzag stitch to make a pocket for the ribbon (leaving about 1/2 unsewn to get the ribbon in, and for the ends to hang out).

I have a TON of baskets and buckets that this fits over. I just tighten up and tie both ends snug…and I have a gorgeous, neutral cover. I just love the texture, and the sweater at the top of my containers gives a nice, soft surface for baby!

I can’t wait to put my new invention to work!

This little guy is simply PERFECT. You might recognize mom and dad from their recent maternity session…and they are my FIRST family to try out my new “Baby’s First Year” package (that means I get to see them a LOT this year, which is awesome because they are so much fun!). Mom is stunning, and I needed a wide angle lens to get both of dad’s giant biceps into frame! Its no surprise that these two made an adorable little boy, and it was so fun to meet him. I am already looking forward to seeing them all again in the next few months. My baby plan packages include several mini sessions in between the newborn session and the culminating cake smash session at one year! I couldn’t narrow down my favorites, because I love them all. But here are a few of my MOST favorite:

In home newborn and family session. June Bug Photography, Snohomish County photographer.

I am finally getting caught up on my blog posts. Here is a Newborn and family session from a few months ago!

Typically, I hold newborn sessions in my Snohomish studio, but this time, I visited this little guy at his home on Saturday for a fun filled family session.

Baby is nearly 3 weeks old, and was so chill! I had a blast getting to know baby, Mom, Dad, and Big Brother. Big bro turns 2 in a week, so we celebrated with a birthday donut, of course!

We started inside and got some great family images in their beautiful home, and then headed out back to play a bit.

I love the “lifestyle” feel of these images, because they capture the fun we had during the session. I did feel a bit silly walking into their gorgeous home with my giant strobe, diffuser, blankets, baskets, buckets, and of course my camera and gear.

Here are a few of my favorites from the session:

New products! Prints & Presents.

I have been hard a work putting together new packages to offer, and I am so excited to finally officially announce what I have come up with.

After working closely with some amazing local photographers, and spending a lot of time really thinking about my business…and why I love what I do, I decided that I would like to offer PRODUCTS (prints!) with every package and every session done with June Bug Photography. There are a million reasons that I have made this decision, but the number one reason is that prints are REAL. Prints are forever. Weather you choose to put them in a scrapbook, photo album, frame, or even in a box in the attic…they will still be stunning images in 50 years. Your great grandchildren will hold and treasure images of you and your family. That, to me, is beautiful. The digital age has certainly been a wonderful thing for photographers (we no longer have to worry about the expense of film & developing, we can instantly see if our photos are properly composed and exposed)…but there has also been a trend to stop PRINTING images. We have access to our photos on our phones, our computers, the “cloud”…which is so wonderful for sharing and enjoying now, but I worry about the future of these digital images.

I spent last Saturday by my grandmother’s bedside in the hospital, and began planning the slideshow I will create for her (to play in her room at Hospice care). When I got back to my Mom’s house, I began sorting through many photo albums (all labeled, of course, if you know my mother!). It brought tears to my eyes to see Granny in nearly every photo of family events, birthdays, school field trips..she was such a presence throughout our childhood and beyond. I then began to realize that I do not have ANY photo albums in my own home. I am a photographer, and I have not a single photo album for my children (or their children, one day) to flip through and remember all of the wonderful moments we have shared. Don’t get me wrong, I have photos…just not prints. All of my images are stored on hard drives, phones (some long lost phones..), picassa (which I never use anymore), zip drives, cds, dropbox, and surely some other long forgotten locations. In fact, EVERY photo I took in the first 9 months of my daughters life were stored “safely” on a laptop. A laptop that was stolen from my home.

This is why I have decided to make a conscious shift to provide prints for my clients (and myself!). Every package will include 4×6 images of your favorites from your session. I have had a lot of fun putting together a sweet keepsake box to store them all. You are, of course, welcome to make additional prints from your digital files (or from the online gallery). I have revamped my price list to reflect these changes, and you will still be receiving digital files of your favorite images!

Here are a few shots of my new products, I just LOVE how it all looks. Check out new pricing information HEREprints, digital images, keepsake boxproductsSnohomish county photography
