During the winter months, I pretty much stick with Studio Maternity sessions! As much as I love living in the Pacific Northwest, planning an outdoor photo session can be a nightmare! Our weather is unpredictable, often rainy, and super chilly from around September through June. Light is EVERYTHING when it comes to photography, and perfect light can be hard to come by in natural light (aka: outside). I have become pretty obsessed with in studio maternity sessions. Primarily because I am a control freak, and I can control the temperature, backdrop, and most importantly..the LIGHT when I’m in studio. This isn’t to say I don’t love outdoor sessions, I definitely do…but I definitely prefer the predictability and flexibility that comes with an in studio session.
A typical in studio maternity session is about an hour long, which gives plenty of time for outfit changes, backdrop changes, and a variety of lighting set ups. The studio is warm, comfortable, and best of all…you don’t have to change in an outhouse (or pop up tent, which can be a bit awkward while on location). I have a HUGE collection of beautiful gowns in different colors, styles, and sizes (check them out here https://junebugphotography.org/many-new-maternity-gowns-time-update-closet-tour/ ) I also have floral crowns, capes, tossing trains, maternity spanx…I’ve got it all!
My most recent maternity session was with the most gorgeous couple! I cannot wait to meet their little one once they arrive!
